Can't online check in cause of Government Regs?

I've had this once before where Virgin online checkin won't let me check in a family member because of 'Government Regulation'. If you ring Virgin they will tell you 5% of all passengers will get this as a security check.

We just have to check in at the desk like they did in the olden times!

Is this for real, only this happened to us once before and it turns out when we got to the airport there was something wrong with the plane bookings and basically they needed to see the whites of our eyes to offer an alternative.

Or it's real and I'm getting parodied less than 24hours before trip?

It happens all the while. Is it such a big deal?

Normally just an extra bag check. Really don't understand why it is an issue!

Hi Berlin - extra security search, it'll be fine, a quick pad down and rummage thro your hand luggage, they won't need your inside leg measurement, unless you're argy bargy, then watch out for those latex gloves kidda

Remember a short hard cough helps

Seriously though, this happened to us this year, I mean the having to checkin at the airport, not the rubber gloves. Checked in as usual, nothing different, no extra questions. Made no difference as it was the same queue as bag drop for us, so wouldn't have saved anytime doing it online.

Sounds like secondary security. A sample of every flight go through this. It can take some time so be at the airport a bit earlier than normal.

Had it 4 weeks ago, the dreaded SSSS will be on the boarding card so be prepared for a further check at the gate!

Just limber up before you arrive at the airport and make sure you can touch your toes to make it easier

I had extra security checks at the gate on our last visit in 2015. Took all of 2 mins, check thru my hand luggage and pat down from security lady , all down very quickly and with a cheerful manner.
