10 year old on DDP, keeping credit and paying out of pocket

In which restaurants is/isn't possible to pay out of pocket for a child age 10 and keep the table service credit?

I know you can't on buffets, but would you be able to at locations like tiffins for RoL package?

are there any TS where you cant do it and they insist on each guest using credit?

We are hoping to do this too so I'm interested to know the responses. I was planning to do it in Yak and Yeti and T-Rex. I was assuming that you could do it where ever you wanted, and you just use the number of credits you want and pay for the rest.

I'm also hoping that they will let us do kids meals (and not charge us an adult price) on some occasions (here I'm sure that won't work for the buffets, but I hoped it might for some of the menu options). I was hoping we might save a tiny bit on tips that way.

We’ve done it in every restaurant. It works really well for us. I’ve paid in Mama Melrose for the fantasmic package for the kids. We use the spare credits to eat in the signature restaurants.

Might be wrong but I am pretty sure the person above who did it for mama melrose's children would have been under 10 but they paid to upgrade to adult dining credits for them.
As far as I am aware if your child is actually 10 or above you can do it in all TS restaurants EXCEPT buffets, all-you-care-to-enjoy style restaurants but also anywhere with a set price for an adult/child (fantasmic package, ROL package, trattoria al forno breakfast etc)
If your child is 10 (an adult in Disney's eyes) you will have to use an adult credit.

As your child is 10 you can't do it for anywhere that has a fixed adult and child prices, so buffets, character meals, dinner shows and dinner packages.

For children 9 and under where their dining plan as been upgraded to an adult one, then they would be able to pay the child prices, but not once they hit 10 I'm afraid.

I know about buffets but for example he likes the kids menu at BOG and in coral reef. For buffets is understandable

Anywhere that has a standard menu with different prices for each dish is fine. It's all the set price ones where you can't.

We did this last year and it worked maybe a bit too wonderfully and we paid for it when we stood on the scales at home...

We did more signatures than we ever have and loved everyminute of it!

My kids are 10 & 11 and they are on the adult plans, I'm aiming to pay for them OOP at Yak & Yeti and HOB as they don't eat big meals and is such a waste of food if I order them a adults meal, I know they won't eat it! That gives us 4 more credits to use.
