Avis car hire with BA, allocated wrong car & car seats
We arrived yesterday and picked up a car from Miami. We paid for an upgrade to a group W car when booking the car hire. We were allocated a Kia Socorro? When looking through The Dibb posts I think that’s a group F, whilst the car is ok I’m a bit disappointed I paid more for an upgrade and didn’t receive one? Has this happened to anyone else and what can I do, will I get the price of the upgrade back if I contact BA?
Also, after joining the executive club I thought we got a child’s car seat free, I certainly requested one when hiring the car but we have been charged $70 for the loan of the booster for 17 days! It’s our first time with BA so I may have got it wrong can anyone advise? Thanks in advance |

Hi. Is it a fly drive with BA or just a car hire?
I have just done a dummy booking for an adult and a 5 year old flydrive and checked the price. Then I added a seat and it was free. Edit. Ok, scrolling down further I found this. Your special requests will be sent to Avis, however these are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed. The cost of these items is not included in your booking. Avis will charge for them at time of pick up. So, the seat is payable locally but I don't know about the Executive Club Group W with Avis should be along the lines of a Ford Edge etc. Can you give me the car code on the key fob as there is no Kia model you have mentioned. Is it a Sportage?

Is it a Sorrento? We had a Santa Fe last year and I think they are on the same platform as they come from sister companies. This was a W grade car.

Thanks for that.
We will have to suck the $70 charge up and learn for next time. The car is a Kia Sorento, i did question at the garage that I thought it should be a Ford Edge, group W and the guy said this was similar. We don’t have the fob at the moment as the car is in valet parking in Miami. I’m just wondering if we have been given a car that’s a lower group, this is annoying if this has happened when we specifically paid for a higher group. I just don’t know how to check. The Sorrento is a Class F so they have caught you. However it could be an upgraded edition etc so may not be that clear.
My money is on the former not the latter. Can you pop back and change it?

Ahhh, how annoying if it is a class F. It is a seven seater. I might mention it when we return. It’s a nice car, just like to get what we pay for. We have basic cars in the uk and wanted a nice one in the US.
