Day 0 - Travelling to Heathrow
West Coast Trip Report Index
Cast Me - Laura - 23 Planner and organiser. Loves travelling, food and having fun! DF - Kris - 24 Driver and plan follower. Loves travelling, food and having fun! Day 0 - Travelling to Heathrow I didn’t get much sleep during the night due to being way too excited! I initially woke at around 6:30 but managed to doze on and off until 9:30. Kris got up at about the same time, although he’d slept much better than me. Why do men never get as excited? Online check in opened at half 11 so I logged on to the laptop at about 11:15 and waited patiently. I checked in as soon as it opened but for some reason there didn’t seem any option to choose our seats, it just assigned them to us, row 40 seats D and E. I was really upset as I wanted a window seat. We’d thought about upgrading to premium economy if it wasn’t too expensive so I rang the number the website gave me. I was so happy to find out they’d still got seats left in premium but less happy to find out it was going to cost us £265 each just for the outbound journey. After a bit of a discussion we decided to go for it! We were booked into row 36 seats H and K. Our original economy flights had only cost us £350 so we didn’t mind paying the extra for premium. We finished our packing, had some lunch, tidied the house and were ready by 2:00. We had planned on having only 2 suitcases to go out with (4 total but 2 smaller inside the 2 bigger) but I had just too much stuff so we had to take 3, much to Kris’s disgust! Kris’s dad was picking us up at half 2 so we waited impatiently, playing with the camera. When he arrived we packed the suitcases into the car and set off. It took us about half an hour to get to Wolverhampton bus station so we had a 20 minute wait for our National Express. Our coach tickets cost £60 total return. People kept telling us we were stupid and should just drive there but neither of us fancied driving home after an 11 hour overnight flight. The coach left exactly on time at 3:20 with only a handful of people on it. After a few stops on the way we arrived at Heathrow at 7:15, a little bit late due to the ridiculous amount of traffic around the airport. The Yotel was a little tricky to find and in terminal 4 so we didn’t get there until just before 8. The Yotel is so cool with all its purple lighting! We were initially in room 12 but the TV didn’t work so we were quickly moved to room 28. We had booked a premium room for £80 to give us a bigger bed. Although the room was small (which is to be expected with it being a capsule style hotel) it had a fancy bed that moved from a sofa to a bed at the touch of a button, loads of different light settings and a lovely bathroom. After exploring the room we headed to the Wetherspoon’s in terminal 4 for some dinner. Luckily it is about 100 yards from the Yotel so we didn’t have far to go! Kris had fish and chips and a coke and I had chill con carne and a diet coke. The meals were good although the service was pretty poor, but it only cost us £20. After we’d finished we headed to WHSmith for some drinks and snacks for the room and then back to the Yotel. We watched TV until half 10 and were in bed by 10:45 by which time I was really, really, really excited! Tomorrow - Travelling to San Francisco Edited at 09:16 PM. |
