Has anyone successfully ‘haggled’ with an online travel agent?

Like the title says I guess.

I’ve sent out for quotes for our family trip to numerous Florida specialising online travel agents (Ocean Florida, Travel Planners, Charter, Kenwood etc). My best quote came from a company we’ve used before and who I’ve always had good experiences with. I think the price is actually very good however I’m always looking for savings where I can!

So I guess what I want to know is, has anyone ever tried haggling with one of these companies and managed to get anywhere? I don’t think it’s really much more expensive than doing it DIY so can’t see where they’d cut money, but they must be making it somewhere or they’d go bust...

So, have you done it and if so what’s your tactic?

Just in case it helps the quote is for 5 adults 2 kids, direct flights from Manchester, 14 day Disney and Universal tickets, 2 nights HRH and car hire.

Not with these but I haggled 23% off a Virgin package one year (off web price). Went instore and negotiated with the manger (they had to get area manager approval as they couldn’t go that high).

For any negotiation go armed with prices/evidence, just blagging it is unlikely to be successful.

I haven’t tried with holidays but I often do when buying in-store.

I’m direct - I ask nicely if they would be able to offer me a discount. Then I keep quiet - let them decide and often they don’t say No immediately, maybe go off to find a manager.

I got quotes off Tui, Virgin, Travel City direct (gone now) and Kenwood travels then went to the co-op travel at 1st they couldn’t beat the Kenwood travel but found us flights with TC and got the Disney hotel we wanted. With the savings booked a overnight stay at holiday Inn Manchester Airport and 14 day parking.
