12 v 16 mp?

A (probably stupid) question:-
If you had identical cameras, lens, sensor etc,etc but one was 12mp and one was 16mp would there be a noticable increase in image quaity on the 16mp camera ?

Not a stupid question at all, the difference in size would matter if you planned to produce enormous prints but for just average use you don't need anything like even 12mp. If you only view your pictures on a monitor 3mp are enough, 6x4 prints 3mp, 8x10 5mp, 14x11 7-8mp. If you want to edit pictures on a computer then more pixels would be an advantage should you want to crop your pictures but if not, you don't need them.

Totally agree with previous post. i develop photos and for taking normal pics you need no more than 5mp, anytinh higher is only for making large prints. Fed up tyring to explain to people to stop wasting there memeroy card space by taking pics on the highest resolution

Yeah I agree, people bang on about how many MP their cameras have but in effect it makes no difference unless you are printing massive posters or cropping the photos down to tiny sections. 12, 16 same difference

The sensor is much more important than the MP count. Panasonic have actually reduced their MP count on the latest TZ70.
