Some will say you can change the dripping joints but for anything over 10 years old you start doing one and find the whole lot is brittle and snaps. Or you do one joint and wreck two others!

This will help you as long as you can guesstimate the requirement by walking around

5m lengths of guttering are circa £14 each
4m lengths of down pipe are circa £12 each
Assume a cost of £4 each for every joint, corner, outlet pieces etc
Assume a cost of £1 for every gutter bracket

That will get you in the ball park so you can work out roughly the cost of materials.
I would say circa £250 all in for materials.

If one Guy cannot do that job on his own in a day he wants chopping. So labour between £150 and £300 depending on where you live.

Make sure they take the old stuff away as it's a pain to dispose of.
Thank you.

Over Rd, same house as ours £1300, took 2 days and 3 men. Even I thought this was high! Prob won't be asking them

No one should be working of a ladder for this amount of time, doing this type of job. H/S would jail them.

Sorry you are not correct. the HSE has no Law in place for the length of time a Tradesman can be up a ladder. They do recommend 30 mins but recommendations are not Law and nobody listens to them. Now their Regs regarding working from height etc (apart from the time) are very good and should be adhered to.

Meggy. Did that include fascias and soffits? That price is insane otherwise.

We were recent quoted £900 for such work - replacing cast iron guttering with plastic - or whatever the modern material is.

Sounds like that was too much!

Op - I think all you can do is get quotes

You would have paid more as to take down that old stuff is harder.

You can't just sling it down as it will damage the drive etc
It's harder to get rid of.
Long lengths really need 2 Guys on different ladders working together.

Good gear mind and can be sold to the reclamation market.

Thanks Tom - we didn't actually go ahead in the end but this whole thread has reminded me it needs doing. We are a Victorian terrace so just the front and back w h no sides

Can new guttering be fitted to cast iron downpipes as if rather not replace those of not required..?

Yes you can . The gutter outlet section of the new guttering will just pop in to the old down pipe. If the pipe is too wide then I would just silicone around the gap where the outlet drops in but that's being ultra fussy.
