Passport & ESTA question

Apologies in advance if these are silly questions.

Passport:
How long does a passport need to have left on it to travel yo USA?

ESTA:
From a visit to the US earlier this year we have an ESTA for myself and my wife. However, the expiry dates are 3.7.20. for my wife and 4.11.20. for me (not sure why these are different).

I am due to go to the US alone in February 2020 and with my wife in August 2020. I assume the ESTA will cover me for both these visits but I will have to get a new ESTA for my wife for the August 2020 trip?

Thanks.

Your passport must be valid for your trip to go the states, you do not need any time left on it for the states (answer based on yous having a british passport)

I think if your esta dates are different it is normally due to a passport expiring before the 2 years from date of application.

Your wife will need a new esta, please check her passport does not run out before your trip and remember new passport = new esta

If you have a passport issued by any of these nations (which include the UK and RoI) it only has to be valid for the dates of travel. No grace period is required.

Yes you will need a new ESTA for your wife. They are valid for 2 years from the date of approval unless you get a new P/P in the meantime. ESTA only needs to be valid for the date of travel to the US

PS

No such thing as a silly question on the DIBB - well for 99% of us anyway.

So I won't need to get a new ESTA, just the wife?

I’d check your wife’s passport to see when it runs out.
