Why do the media think grandparents are past it?

I am fed up of reading quotes from politicians and the media suggesting that 'grannys' are all old, unfit, on their last legs and in their dotage.

When will their be an appreciation that some grandparents are younger, fit, healthy and ready to continue the adventures that have been put on hold for the last 9 months.

The stereotype non hugable granny in a rocking chair is just that a stereotype.

Totally agree.

Plus I’m also fed up of reading about the help available for younger people being made redundant. They’re not the only ones being made redundant.

Totally agree with, they think we are all past it
I run twice a week, cycle 20-30 miles once a week, online class 3 times a week & walk at least 2 miles a day too.
After all this I still have energy to run around after the Grandkids
We all haven’t got false teeth & a Zimmer frame yet

Many grandparents are fitter than younger people.

Many Grandmothers are in their early to mid 30s (or possibly younger in Redruth). They can hardly be described as past it.

Well I’m not a granny but could be at 56, I’m defiantly not past it, I have lots of life in me yet and plan on having lots of fun in the future. I have the mentality of a 12 year old and I can’t wait for my vaccine to start living again!

I don't know if you really mean mid 30's as I don't know many people who had kids at age 16 whose kids then had kids at 16 too. The average age of a first time Mum is 29 and granny 50 although obviously many are younger or older. I had my youngest child at 39 and I am the same age as some of her friends grannies

I have met many, many very young mothers in the course of my previous job, particularly in socially deprived areas. This having of children at a young age tends to pass from generation to generation within families. I can assure you that there are plenty of teenage mother out there.

As is frequently stated on the DIBB, membership is not necessarily representative of the nation as a whole.
