No, Fort Myers airport is the closest, but you need to fly indirect. Have been some good deals indirect. One of the german airlines flys direct, but for us in the UK that is obviously indirect.

I've heard quite a few times that the further south you go on the gulf cooast you go the nicer it is (and that is confirmed from people I know and trust), however I've never managed to get further south than Treasure Island, just north of St Petes. And I've been trying for 20 years

Naples is lovely. Plenty of shops, restaurants and things to do. We’re staying 12 nights this summer. 3 nights in Sarasota. You’ve got beaches; boat trips, canoeing, fishing, airboats, the Everglades on your doorstop, lots of boardwalks, gators in the wild, zoo, theatre, cinema. It took us 3 and a half hours to drive Orlando MCO to Naples last year.

Rotonda West is half way between Tampa and Fort Myers. If you are able to get good flights into Tampa then Rotonda is under 1.5 hours drive. The drive up from Miami is 3 hours.

There are some fab beaches in the area. It's a lovely laid back old Florida area with plenty to do.

Lots of independent restaurants and many usual chain restaurants, shopping malls, baseball, water sports, etc
Busch Gardens is an hour's drive north, Sarasota 45 mins. 2hours south will take you to the Everglades.

There are plenty of posts on the guidebook but let me know if you want any more info.

😎
