Mobile Cake decorating advice

Please bear in mind I’m a Newby to this...
I’m going to use fondant icing to make cake decorations but when I roll the icing on a powder surface the icing is going to have powder on it, what shall I use to buff it up?
Been told not to use water? I was going to get a cloth and dab it? 🤷

What about a blusher brush type of thing? I’m not a cake decorator!

you can use a really soft cloth or brush to gently buff/dust the surface

For a more professional finish you can buy a cake steamer a mini version of what cake bakers use to create a clean shiny finish on fondant cakes but unless its something you will be doing in a regular basis its not worth the cost

Is it a dark colour?
You can generally avoid getting any marks if you’re careful or you could roll onto greaseproof if it’s black fondant. That seems to mark up really easily.
You can also use a kettle to steam with but I tend not to bother.

If it's white I just buff it with clean hands. If it's coloured paste you can use vodka. It tends to evaporate if you leave it to dry. Just don't use too much or it will go sticky.

I bought a rolling mat from The Range, thought it was going to be a waste of money, but best £10 spent, you don’t need to roll using icing sugar, it lifts off easily and cleanly, and fab for moving large pieces to cover a cake, if just flip the whole thing over.
