I've got to say if you wanted to see Miami I would have driven down Wednesday and got a hotel for the night. If not I'd be heading straight for the airport.

We were on an 8.30 approx BA flight and we did get caught in traffic leaving south beach it took us around 1 hour to get to the airport but our satnav is one that directs you round the traffic so it did send us an odd way which I assume made it quicker.

You drop your car then get a monorail to the terminal it is a long walk we found BA check in easy the security checks were long and then we ate once through.

We did this last year, and it took about 6 hours door to airport. But, we left with loads of time, then stopped at Vero beach for lunch, which is beautiful, then my husband took a wrong turn and we ended up going back towards Orlando (don't even ask lol) and the traffic around Miami going towards the airport was really slow, so I would do with with plenty of time.

The car hire garage isn't far at all, you use the Miami mover monorail to get you from the garage to the airport terminal, and the BA deaks were about. 5/10 min walk when you got into the terminal. We were through security in minutes but there is nothing much airside in that part of the terminal!

We loved the stop at Vero Beach, there's a lovely place to eat right on the beach called Mulligans beach bar, brilliant food and a view to die for! There's pic in my trip report from last year!
