Car Hire Advice

We're about to book to go back to Florida in Feb next year. Last time we paid for platinum car insurance through Alamo as we need 2 x booster seats. For a 4 door compact car this is going to cost around £400 - does this sound about right? If we chose the cheaper insurance and didn't book the car seats but took them anyway would we get charged the daily rate for them?

Thanks in advance :-)

Never been an issue for us before. However this year we are taking our 4yr old Grandaughter so have looked into it
From looking on here and my research the best and cheapest way is to take your own seats. That way you know the quality of the seat, what it has been through and also how to work it.

PS Your price for car hire seems VERY high IMO. What are your exact dates please, can then research for you.

My Goodness £400 for insurance! Most people on here will say ditch their car and book your own with a bigger car and better insurance for cheaper, and take your own booster seats, or buy some at Walmart for around $10.

Our car for Easter holidays is an Int SUV with Gold insurance which gives us a tank of fuel and extra driver for £375.

I am sure Mr Tom will be back with some much better quotes for you

Just a quick glance ref your dates and car category:-

Virgin Alamo £308.09p all insured
Alamo Brits £254.21 all insured

A Full size with Brits is only £296.35p and thats a Mondeo type!

Personally I would book with Brits as bear in mind prices do tend to go up and you can always cancel at anytime and get a refund

I booked a compact yesterday through Netflights for end of April '15. It's with Alamo. Had a look at your dates and the price is £266 plus you get 5.25% back with Topcashback. This was getting full tank of petrol and returning full.

Hope this helps. I logged onto the Alamo site and checked in and did Savetime and now have the barcode to go straight to the garage.

We're probably going to book through Travel city and it's coming in slightly cheaper with them - £284 fully inclusive and £355 platinum. We could take booster seats but its another thing to carry and not sure I'd want to buy seats there as it would mean leaving the airport with no seat and my youngest will only be 6. It just seems a fairly big jump from fully inclusive to platinum.

Just checked the price with Alamo brits and it's still coming in £347 with booster seats :-( Maybe we need to think about taking our own after all!

We always take our own booster seats, this time our grand daughter aged 3 will need her seat so we are taking it with us.

Like you said, i would never buy over there because you need to drive from the airport to the shop and if something happened in that time and not having a seat was a cause for injury you would never forgive yourself for being so cheap.
