Pet insurance recommendations
Just had the renewal through for our dog’s insurance, and yet again it’s gone up even though we’ve never claimed.
So, currently with Petplan. Are there any others who will deal directly with the vets, or are easy to deal with, pay out quickly etc? I’m a little worried about moving insurers, but we’ve never claimed and I’m fed up of the increases each year. I’m looking for Lifetime cover, with no pre-existing conditions. TIA 🙂

I would avoid More Than or any other insurer backed by Royal Sun & Alliance. We had a shocking time with them when we claimed last year, and they were so unbelievably rude. We had to refer them to the Ombudsman and only then would they pay out. It made a stressful situation so much worse.
I cancelled at renewal, as the dog I claimed for is uninsurable for the condition we claimed for and our other 2 have no pre-existing conditions. More Than had the cheek to ask why I was leaving. I told them to check their claims record.

One to avoid then 😕
How is Merlin now? I hope I’ve remembered his name correctly?

You have! He’s doing good thank you. He was a bit out of sorts last weekend, so obviously I was panicking, but he’s right as rain now so must have been the weather or a bug. If you didn’t know his situation, you’d never know there was anything wrong with him.

We were looking at petplan, but because of the age of our cats it’s just a years policy most are offering

I moved mine last year to Bought By Many- I was a little dubious as I had never heard of them but they had very good reviews. I had to make a claim in March and was pretty concerned because they wouldn't pre auth the operation, you had to claim and then claim back, however apart from that they were great. My vet billed them direct anyway and it was paid within 5 days. The vets were very impressed.

My boy also had a bit of a bug at the end of last week. Runs and vomiting. I ended up at the vets as when I did offer him a little food in the afternoon, he wasn’t interested. He’s never once walked away from food. Only lasted a day and he was back to himself, thankfully.
Glad Merlin is doing well 😊

I'm with the Post Office and Animal Friends but haven't made a claim. Have been with Tesco is the past and had no problems with claiming. Petplan have always seemed really expensive to me.
