Marriage Licence

Do you need an appointment at the courthouse to get one? Or do you just turn up and wait?

You just turn up - we didn't even have to wait as there was no-one else in that office when we got there. They gave us the paperwork to fill out, we showed our passports and paid the fee - it was so simple and the people there were lovely!

You just turn up. I am currently trying to find out if we need our birth certificates or if passports and driving licences will be enough.

Did you take out that 'apositille' (sp?) that I keep reading so much about. Its a 'thing' that makes the UK recognise you've been married abroad, dont know if its necessary though!

We are getting our licence before we go. Doing it this way means we need to get our docs signed by a solicitor £50, then the total licence fee is $200.

This way we know we will have it before we go and dont have to drag everyone out to get it.

Blimey thats a bit steep, thought it was $100 at the courthouse? But no doubt worth the money for peace of mind on your big day, thanks!

I've never heard of this. Do you have more info? I know that your Florida wedding is recognised in the UK so maybe its not needed.

Take a look here: (skip to UK citizens part)
mouseweddings/orlandoofficiant.html

I'm sure it wouldn't be necessary as so many UK brides marry in Florida and i've yet to hear of any issues like that, but it caught my eye so was just wondering
