Switzerland Summer 2020 - Day 7 - Glaciers and Steam Trains
Another glorious day - though the forecast for next week isn't looking so rosy! A slow get up ( we are on holiday!) and eggy bread for breakfast! We left home at about 10ish and drove up the Sussenpasse - the roads were quite busy with hoard of motorcyclists and sports cars! The aim was to go to see some glaciers over the top of the pass. It was about a 25 minute drive round the hairpin bends until we reached the top and then about 10 minutes to our destination. We had to pay 5CHF to enter into the Aires which converted you for parking We stopped at the first car park and got out for a walk. Poor O was now at the peeling stage so after loading himself up with suncream he then put a light weight scarf around his neck and face to protect himself further. We walked around for about an hour. It was really peaceful. The water was freezing though that didn't stop June frolicking in it! Though even she looked surprised the first time she jumped in! Some of the views! And June! That is O at the top of some rocks - he loves climbing to these types of ascents! Unlike his mother! It really was a lovely walk and not so challenging for me! We drove on up to the top but just had a quick wander around. It was a lot busier with s lot of climbers around. But more wonderful views of the different glaciers. We didn't climb to the actual glacier! But it was lovely to see them from a distance! I loved this 2CV - such an iconic French car! After about 15 minutes we headed back. We stopped at the top of the Pass to take some photos! So amazing! Back at the house I made some felafels and we had wraps and salad with them. It was then test time/revision time (O has an exam on Thursday!) At around 4.30pm we left for Realp - about 15km way to do a short walk. The traffic was still busy - at one stage we got stuck behind a load of scooters who were traveling at around 35km/h but making it difficult to pass. The main attraction at Realp is the train station. You can put your car on an hourly train to get over the mountains and there are also steam train trips ( we didn't know about these until we got there - though having seen the prices for the steam train - I don't think we would have gone on one!) We were lucky to see a couple of them though! We went on the Rundweg Biel route which wasn't long nor arduous. From the station... Over the river! And back via the summer army biathlon training route! June found water as usual! Once home I made a gnocchi dish which et has with garlic bread. Then the usual games of Boogle (still winning) and cards (I lost all three games - and as it is a game of chance not skill O explained there was only a one in 64 chance of that happening!) We were all in bed by 10pm. Tomorrow we are moving to Verbier.

Amazing scenery, some of your photos could be framed and put up as pictures. Such beautiful blue sky! Poor O, both for the peeling and having to revise on holiday!

Wonderful photos again - looks like such a gorgeous place to be. And the falafels looked pretty good too! Poor O with sore face and having to revise
