Would anyone recommend the Edinburgh tourist pass?
We looked at it but decided it was better (and cheaper ) to just book the attractions we really wanted to do .
We booked all of our attraction tickets through ‘Get your guide’ and then you have the tickets on your phone .

Take a walk to the National Museum Chambers Street. Well worth a look around. If you go to the top floor of the modern museum you will have the best views around Edinburgh.

It's free.

If you like something a bit grizzly then try to book a visit to the medical museum, given Edinburgh was/is at the heart of our medical history it's fascinating.

Calton Hill and Arthur's Seat are great for some lovely views of the city. National Museum has lots of interesting things to see, as is Museum of Childhood on Royal Mile and both are free. Botanic gardens are nice and if you're there Nov-Jan there is a nighttime Christmas light show.

We were in Edinburgh last week and had an amazing time. We have been before and below are things we loved during both trips:
  • Edinburgh castle -this is surely a must do especially the audio guided tour. Last year we also enjoyed some public perfomances which were included in the entrance ticket but there wasn't any this year Pre-booking required
  • Harry Potter Walking Tour - booked with GetYour guide. Our Potter mad girls (and me!) loved this. There is also Museum Context on Victoria Street which has a Chamber of Secrets on the top floor - was closed this time
  • Tour of Chocolate at The Chocolatarium - this was fab, involved lots of chocloate tasting and making but got pricey at the end when you wanted to buy all the lovely chocolate you tasted!
  • Royal Botanical Gardens - lovely way to spend and afternoon. The glasshouse was closed this time but still plenty to see. Pre-booking required but free
  • National Museum of Scotland- we've done this twice and still didn't feel we saw everything. Slots seem to go quickly so book as far in advance as you can
  • Holyrood Palace - your entrance ticket is valid for a year so we were able to revisit again. Spent more time in the gardens this time as it was glorius. Pre-book required
  • Hike up Arthurs Seat - stunning views of Edinburgh - do take comfy walking shoes.
  • Museum of Childhood - worth a visit and showing the kids what we used to play with when we were their age. Was sadly closed when there last week
  • St Giles Cathedral - this was good albeit short. Free but a £5 donation is requested which we happily gave
  • Walking up the Royal Mile, Grassmarket, Victoria Street and Princess Street, people watching and shopping with an occasional picnic in Princess Street Gardens

We didn't do the Royal Yacht Britannia sadly, thats on the list for next time and Camera Obscura looked liked it might give me a migraine but I could be wrong. Might check it out next time.

We found that a lot of restos also needed pre-booking so be sure to do this if you're planning on eating out.

Have fun!

We are also off to Scotland next month, a lot of places may not open at the moment and those that are can have reduced entry for Covid restrictions

Anything you need to have a ticket to get into I would advise booking now

I am not sure if you have an Amex to book on but we have found them excellent for refunds, no I dont work for Amex

We have also ensured all our accommodation is cancellable and refundable should Scotlands restrictions change

BTW the Royal Yacht is a great half day out.

The old town tour is highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed the Royal taught. Castle is great for history buffs. Edinburgh zoo is excellent too
