Mobile Miami to Orlando stop off

Hello
We have just booked flights to Miami for next Aug and planning to drive straight to Orlando. I am after two recommendations please:-

1) somewhere reasonably pleasant to stop for dinner mid way between the two

2) a cheap hotel in Orlando for one night with parking. We are arriving the night before of reservation in POFQ so just need somewhere cheap to rest our heads (but needs parking!)

Thanks lovely dibbers x

Agree - you never know you might have flight delay or take long time getting through immigration, so we always stay near airport, cheapest Holiday Inn or similar with free breakfast - always wake up early first morning, you could be in the parks around lunchtime easily.

A few year ago we arrived in Miami and drove to Orlando. My husband said never again as we all fell asleep and he was driving and shattered.

We are doing the same in April 2020 and have booked a hotel near Miami airport with free parking and breakfast. We figure we will all be up early and will eat breakfast and head to Orlando.

Edited at 02:58 PM.

Next summer will be our third time flying into Miami and we would never drive straight onto Orlando. By the time you have done immigration, got cases and car and the time difference we are knackered!

Stay near Miami airport in a hotel. You’ll be up early the next morning anyway.

I wouldn't book anything - just drive until you're tired - might be 20 minutes from the airport, might be 20 minutes from Orlando. No time limit restraints, no stress, it's really easy to book motels/hotels on an app from the car park, or in person at the desk. All of the motels have parking, and almost always free.

Stopping for dinner is easy if you're happy to eat in one of the chains - Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Outback, Applebees, Five Guys, Cracker Barrel etc everything is on repeat everywhere that you go. I find it easiest to find nice independents on Trip Advisor - or save a few along your route so you can stop somewhere nice when hungry.

We fly into Miami next February with VA and will drive straight to the villa we have rented near Davenport. Will use the turnpike which is so easy plus there are decent rest areas on the way up.

Don't see the point in using up a days holiday for the sake of a 4 hour drive.

When we use Miami we get an airport hotel with a courtesy bus and collect the car very early the next morning (5:30ish) when you are awake anyway. And use US-27 stopping in Lewiston for breakfast.

It isn't really about the four hour drive, it is about being tired and being a danger on the roads as a result - at exactly the time you need your wits about you.

We stopped at Port St Lucie which is about half way and got a room at the Hampton Inn just off the turnpike and then just got pizza delivered to the room.

After Port St Lucie there did not appear to be many places to stop before Orlando if you are on the turnpike.

We completed the drive the following morning and were in a park by 0930 !
