OKW v AKL dilemma
Right, we booked AKL (2 weeks, standard room for 2a and 2c) for next year when it was the cheapest available hotel with DDP. Looks lovely.
I now see that OKW studios have become available for our dates and the holiday would actually be £350 cheaper overall. Our only previous Florida trip was to an a OKW studio and we would very happily go back. It was also handy to have a fridge and kitchenette for breakfast with stuff from the shop. So, stick with what we know and save money, or try something new and possibly nicer?! |

Hotels are all personal choice. I’ve stayed at both of those although in a one bed villa at OKW. Space amazing. Other than that I prefer everything about AKL. Proper hotel. Amazing resort. Three fantastic restaurants. Animal viewing no need for a savannah view. Huge pool. Great resort shop. Fantastic cast members and workshop type experiences with them. Much better QS than at OKW. For me at least your choice is a no brainer. But others will love OKW just as much. If £350 is a game changer I’d switch too.

It’s definitely a personal thing as said. We love OKW and if it meant saving money too we’d definitely change.

I am going to OKW next trip and am looking forward to the space and kitchen. I am a bit worried about the resort being very sprawling as I didn’t enjoy that at CBR. I think AKL was similar price for my dates and I would love to stay there someday, but space won in the end this time.
I like to try different places, so in your shoes, I think I would stick with AKL. |

I’ve stayed at both and would choose AKL. I found the busses at OKW really frustrating, the busses at AKL we’re fabulous.

If you where staying in a 1 bed in okw I would say that, but if just a studio then akl. We have stayed in both and found the bus far better in okw then akl. We go in May 2020 and choose the 1 bed for the 3 of us for the far superior space.

As above personal choice. Whilst Animal Kingdom is a very nice hotel, we find it a bit like being stuck in an all inclusive in Mexico or Dominican in that there are zero places to walk or run. The gyms get packed as a result, and for that reason we did not like it as much as OKW. There were people resorting to running up and down the car park. We very much like walking and running outside. OKW is wonderful for this, including being able to run or walk down a lovely canal side path all the way to Disney Springs. Animal Kingdom would massively benefit from a walking path from there to the park, it’s a regular complaint and hopefully they will put one in. But it’s a very nice hotel apart from that aspect. OKW recently renovated of course, but they are also doing the cash rooms currently I think at Jambo House.
If you do not want to, or like walking or have any mobility issues my gripes will not bother you about Animal Kingdom Lodge. The buses are about the same, I have not had problems at either, perhaps Animal Kingdom has the slight edge. For what it’s worth, worst bus service I ever had was Boardwalk to Magic Kingdom which took forever, also stopping at Swan Dolphin and you never hear people complain about that. As above if you could get a 1 bed at OKW for about the same as what you’ve paid at Animal Kingdom; that would be a no brainer. If you are a family you would love all the extra space, full kitchen, living room and laundry. Have you tried to get that? Well worth it.

I've moved from OKW to AKL. Stayed at both but love AKL - it certainly has the wow factor - even more so for children.

I stayed at both last year but always prefer OKW if staying for longer period. I like AKL for just a few nights. I like the fact at OKW that you open your door and your car is right outside or bus, No long walks through corridors and reception area. Small thing I know but every day for 2 or 3 weeks! Also love the kitchen facilities at okw, even the studios. Boat to disney springs is another plus for OKW too. And the resort has such a calming feel and so pretty.
