Okay, so it seems greater Miami is your option. And you want to do something other than hang with people at the beach or the hotel. Here are some options:

1. Picnic at the Pier or grab a seat at McCormick and Schmick's and watch the cruise ships come in and out. It's an amazing place to people watch and the views of the water, Miami and the ships are incredible. I can do this for hours. Every time.
2. Assuming you have a car or don't mind the expense of an Uber, trek out to Bayside for some views of downtown Miami and shopping. Or take the shopping trip even higher level by going to Sawgrass - it's the largest outlet mall in the USA.
3. Go for a drink or a bite and walk around the Fountainebleau. What a hotel!
4. Spend a few hours walking the canals of Ft. Lauderdale
5. Star Island is a neat place to see how the ultra rich live
6. Spend an afternoon or an evening in Coconut Grove. You know you're in SoFL here!
7. But at all costs avoid the tourist traps along Ocean Ave. Ewe.
