David’s DVC Rentals
Anyone used David’s DVC Rentals? If so how was the experience? Never done anything like that before.

We’ve used them and been very happy.
I’m not sure I’d be happy booking anything at the moment though, but not just through them as I’m hesitant to book with any until the situation is clearer for future holidays. |

I've heard a number of people who booked with David's DVC and DVC in general who have lost their money due to Covid. I would love to use points but it seems it just isn't as secure especially in these difficult times.

David’s has always up until the Covid issue had a stellar reputation.
He’s been put in a very difficult position and given vouchers when it’s legally questionable if he has to do anything given he is just a facilitator. Jury is out on that. So he’s come under massive flack, and I understand may have now changed the contracts to mean owners renting have to refund monies in a similar situation in future but it’s just what I’ve read others saying- I haven’t seen it myself. Renting DVC points offers large savings usually over booking certain hotels in particular, cash. But you need to make sure you are covered until Covid is hopefully a memory. Then again booking anything is risky at the mo, which means normally falling back on credit card chargebacks at the moment.

Hi Reneejbeatte,
I would also suggest to look closer to home and seek our a DVC Dibber, one who would and can be flexible with their points if you need to cancel. Example: Let say you were looking for 7-nights checking in 16th Jan 2021 in a studio at Old Key West, which would require 92-vacation points. To book today you would first need to find an OKW member and that's due to being over 7-months out from your check in date. It would be more beneficial for both parties that the OKW member has a use-year beginning within a few months of Jan, so a member with Oct, Nov, Dec or Jan use-year. Also try and find a member who's using current use-year points and not borrowed or bank points as that reduces flexibility in the event you need to cancel, but you could go at a later date in 2021 or 2022. Also consider David's charges, $19 per point if booking for stays within 7-months and $20 for stays beyond 7-months. So to book today those 7-nights checking in on 16th Jan at OKW, it would cost $20 per point, so 92-vacation points would cost $1,840, which needs to be paid up front. At today's exchange rate that £1,509, so £16.40 per point. If you look at TheDibb, DVC Points Available for Rent you will see prices roughly between £12 to £14. https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=166 So you are not only saving but possible only having to place a deposit with a final payment closer to check-in, but more importantly you're dealing direct with a member and not through a third person who's dealing in dollars. Also worth checking, as depending on the time of year and the resort/room size there might only be a minimal saving due to a Disney offer with reduced rack rates or free dining, so best check for any current or historic Disney offers against renting. Disney's US rack rate for those 7-nights in Jan 2020 at OKW would cost $2,984 so a potential saving of over $1,140 with David's and even more when renting from a Dibber. And if booking on Disney's UK web site today for 16th Jan 2021 then those 7-nights would cost £2,317, so around $2,837 today. Depending on number of guest, maybe enough savings to pay for all Disney dining over the week. Good luck Edited at 01:44 PM. Reason: Added UK Walt Disney's costing for 7-nights at OKW |

This is great info, thanks. I will look into this! Was looking at animal kingdom villas for May, Disney price was over 5k, David’s was about £1500 so big saving!

Not ignoring the advice you've been given above- but also be aware that there are other agents available other than Davids. He didn't have availability for our first choice option but we found it with DVC Rental Store instead.
We are scheduled for November so I can't give any feedback about what their customer service is like if we are cancelled- we have same risks as outlined above for Davids. |

Forgot to make clear that when going through an agent like David's then you don't have direct contact with the owner so you might not know if the points you are renting are banked, borrowed or when their use-year starts.
Plus if you do have to cancel it would be so much easier to work directly with the owner, especially a Dibber rather than via the agent. Anyway, the savings you quote are amazing, I didn't realise you could save so much, was that like for like so the same room category at AKV? By the way, I'm not a past or current Dibb renter. Happy planning for your AKV holiday. |

If I put my points up for rent my contract will be clear:
1. If cancelled due to renter just cancelling would move booking if possible but no refund. 2. If cancelled due to hotel being shut or flights not possible would move booking if possible, if impossible would refund apart from my dues (about $6.70 a point). 3. I will fully inform the renter when booking which points I’m using so they know if they can be banked if cancels early enough, know all deadlines, know about booking windows so it is an open transaction and they can see all deadlines when I’d lose the points, not likely be able to book etc.
