Sunset Jamaica Grande Hotel & Spa
We arrived in Jamaica at Montego Bay airport around 1:45pm local time. Once through immigration and on the coach it was approximately a 2 hours journey to our Hotel in Ocho Rios. This included a quick toilet/smoke/drink break where we had our first taste of the Jamaican culture, by being offered a "smoke"
On arrival at our hotel we checked in went to our rooms and then wandered around the hotel in search of food. There should have been a beach BBQ on, which there was every Tuesday and Thursday but as it was windy it had been moved to the Entertainment bar. The Hotel itself was great and i'd recommend it to anyone. There were numerous bars, (including a Disco for over 18's) and restaurants each one different to the last. There was a lounge bar which was air-conditioned so was nice to go in to escape the humidity outside. A piano lounge, the Jamaic'N Me Crazy Disco, 2 swim up bars and a bar in Reception. There was also the Entertainment bar at night which hosted the North Grill (on the North Beach). This was open from approximately 10am up until 2am serving toasted sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs and Jerk chicken. There was also a South Grill on the South Beach. This was only open as a grill until 5pm as after this it was a Steak House which was one of the 3 á la carte restaurants. The other 2 á la cartes where Il Diva which was a posh Italian restaurant and Ginger Lily which was a Chinese restaurant and which we least enjoyed out of the 3. Finally there was the usual buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a small place called Jamalicious Café which did cold sandwiches and salads but we only tried it once as were disappointed. Obviously there was a Spa which did everything from Massages, Waxing, Hairdressing, and all sorts of Beauty Regimes. I had my Acrylic nails taken off in there and a Manicure done costing $50 which i think wasn't too bad considering it was in the hotel. There was also a gym and 5 pools! One of them had a Lighthouse slide going into it. There should have also been a slide on the other side which didn't end in a pool but this wasn't working whilst we were there. On both beaches there were Watersports available. On the North beach they had water trampolines to swim out to as well as the hotel's watersports which were all un-motorised. The South beach however had the boats and the motorised watersports run by an outside company. Over on the South beach we were very close to the Harbour where all the cruise ships came in. We couldn't believe the size of some of them and said they were like "floating hotels" You had to watch though because when the cruise ships were in, all the local shops put there prices up and wouldn't barter with you the same. They obviously believe that because people can afford to go on a cruise, they can afford higher prices |
