Four Points on a Fat Boy - August 2012 - Day 4
Four Points on a Fat Boy – Wednesday 1st – Saturday 11th August 2012
Cast members: Me – Alanda – riding bikes for nearly 20 years now, but enjoying being pillion on this trip. Current bike is Harley Davidson 883 Sportster. DH – Wiggy – riding bikes since just after he could walk I think - say over 35 years! Current bike Harley Davidson Fat Boy. Day 4. PSJ – Lowestoft 238 miles Today was always going to be a bit of a slog – a lot of miles to get cross-country to the furthest point east, and not a lot we wanted to see on the way. Added to that, the weather forecast was for a band of rain to cover the exact route we wanted to take! So, from PSJ we took the A36 through Bath, then on through Oxford before stopping at a Little Chef near Bicester. Proud to see Team GB win another rowing medal on the TV in here It was dry until we reached Milton Keynes, then the rain really settled in as we rode through Bedford and around Cambridge to Newmarket and Black Bear Harley Davidson. We had a welcome break here before carrying on. Is this some blue sky I see? No, the weather continued to get worse as we rode through Bury St Edmunds, Diss and finally Harleston, and the most exciting thing I saw all day was a pig farm. We arrived in at the Hatfield Hotel in Lowestoft and found that the car park was across the road from the hotel, but when the girl on reception saw we had a Harley she arranged for it to be parked in the locked kitchen yard, and it was the talk of all the staff we spoke to in the hotel that night. We were able to walk (in the dry) to the furthest point East at Lowestoft Ness, although we had to stop at the Tourist Information to ask where it was (just past the gas works). Managed to get up-close to a windmill - never appreciated how huge these really are! Third point reached – back to the hotel for a few drinks and some food, before an early night to catch up with the Olympics.
