A very late NYC trip report from June 2012

As the title suggests my trip report is waaaaaaay overdue! It is going to be photo heavy- they reflect our trip better than my words!

Cast:

Me: Amy was dragged kicking and screaming into my 30's!
DH: Looking forward to time just the two of us.

Our trip to NYC was for my 30th and lucky for me the jubilee made the May half term late so Toby and I were able to get away for a few days.

Saturday 2nd June

We stayed at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow the night before.

Sunday 3rd June

After a fretful nights sleep (my SIL had helpfully sent me a text saying she hoped I didn't oversleep all my dreams were about, yes, oversleeping!) I got up for the alarm went off and we got ready. I was so excited I couldn't wait to check in. Car parked we hurried into Terminal 3 and were checked in. I asked if we could have seats on row 18 the check-in lady did her thing and said "yes, they are yours" We were very pleased.

Security cleared we went to get some breakfast. We went to Rhubarb.

Before we knew it, it was time to board so we walked round to gate 19 and were soon boarding Little Miss Sunshine

While we were waiting to push back I took this photo (no rain for a while I thought... little did I know!)



We were soon in the air



Our orders were taken for lunch, I had the chicken and Toby had lasagne.

Both meals were delicious and we enjoyed them.

We both watched something on the IFE- I watched One Day and as I missed the first episode on BBC 1 I was pleased to catch up. It's quite gritty so not light aeroplane watching in all honesty. I then had a nap as I was quite tired- thanks SIL!

Yay! We had arrived into JFK and it was glorious sunshine. As we were waiting to get off the plane two policeman boarded the plane and went straight into UC... turns out someone had got a bit carried away at the UC bar... dear, oh dear.

We made our way through to immigration where the fun began! Now I have been through various airports in the States before, but I knew we were in for a long wait when I saw and heard the baggage announcements for the flights just arrived, and who had sadly beat us to the queues! Almost two hours we were stood there... worse still we had Piers Morgan taking charge of the Jubilee celebrations on CNN in the queue. :angry: It could have been worse, we could have been in the UC queue when the immigration officer says "I'm off" and closes her station down and the 5/6 people in her queue had to re-join another station's queue. The couple behind us (UC) got into a heated discussion about why he should have listened to her and booked the Newark flight... Finally we were called forward and greeted with the usual immigration charisma! Passports stamped; luggage waiting for us we made our way out. I had booked a car via Groupon and a few phone calls later we were in the car and on our way.

Traffic was good and we were soon coming over one of the bridges when we saw the skyline:

We came into the City and drove past Grand Central Station



Whilst driving down the Avenue of Americas we saw a movie being filmed and saw Ben Stiller, no photo's I'm afraid... for once traffic was moving smoothly!

We soon arrived at our hotel, The London, and were soon checked into our room. These photos were taken on our last day hence the messy bed, but it makes sense to have show them now!

The room as you can see was massive and we had a corner room ran from the front of the hotel to the back. We were greeted to this when we got to our room



Wi-Fi was free here so I FaceTimed the boys at home and gave them a tour. We had a quick shower and got changed, unpacked and then headed out as we were feeling a bit peckish.

Despite making my Google map I lost my bearings and headed (unbeknownst) to us towards Times Square, we ended up in Lindy's and ordered a Mae West

I didn't drive, I meant we had booked a car service to collect us from JFK- no I would not attempt to drive!
