Also, the govt has not updated the symptoms list for the PCR. This is despite the delta variant having different symptoms. So if the teacher is coughing, sneezing and feels like they have a cold, they don’t qualify for a PCR by the rules. It has to be a ‘continuous’ cough, lack of smell and a temp

It appears they have a risk assessment for Mason and determined he needs to be informed so you can make a decision to send or not which in my opinion if a good things.

You know someone has a cold, no Covid and it's a decision for you.
The teacher does have symptoms so she did a LFT which I now know is not recommended, she should have had a PCR test with the symptoms.
Its in Mason’s health care plan than we are informed immediately if anyone in his class has any virus or infection, not just covid.
The IBD team has said he can’t return to school until a negative PCR test is done or in 10 days, which ever comes first.

Most of the time an infected person has not yet had the results from their PCR so are in school / work spreading it as that's the Govmt rules. I deal with this as work in a school office
I thought you had to isolate whilst waiting for results of a PCR test? Has that recently changed?

When ever Mason is off due to his health it doesn’t go as an unauthorised absence. He also doesn’t get late marks etc thankfully. He has only just gone back to school after almost 12 months off so he us still on a phase back into school. So his case is completely different. It isn’t just covid thats an issue, its any virus or infection.

The teacher woke up today with a bad cough, sore throat and high temperature. To me that justifies a PCR test, however she chose to do a LFT test instead.

My son had a PCR last Friday at 3pm he had a positive result at 8am Saturday morning so it’s pretty quick even though they say up to 72 hours. Possibly they send out positive results quicker.

I agree that this would enable the teacher to have a PCR but I cannot believe the school told you this ! No criticism of you, but this is private information!

I did a PCR recently but it was negative. I was more ill with the cold going round than my sister was with covid at the same time. So , really, is the point not that the teacher has a virus that Mason need protecting against whether or not it is covid ? I was bedridden with no ‘cold’. I haven’t felt so ill since I had flu nearly 30 ’years ago

You are right, Mason does also needs to protect against a cold too. I can’t imagine how much time he is going have off over winter 🙈
Covid is a massive risk though, Mason was incredibly and seriously poorly in hospital with it in July.
With the teacher, who was fine yesterday, going in school with so many symptoms I would expect her to have a PCR test rather than a LFT
If it is just a cold Mason would just stay off this week but as it stands his consultant and IBD team are saying that he needs to stay home for ten days unless the teacher provides a negative PCR test. If her PCR test is negative he can return on Monday if not its in 10 days.
I have sent the NHS details to school because I don’t want him missing school unnecessarily if that makes sense x

You’ve done the right thing and don’t beat yourself up about being a careful and caring mother. Over the years I took on Doctors and even my husband over my son asthma. And do you know what? I was always right. But it’s better to protect them and be wrong than to find out too late you were right.

I really hope your school office isn't letting infected people stay in school while awaiting the results of a PCR as this is against the rules. They state 'You should self-isolate at home while you get a PCR test and wait for the results.'
If schools are doing this it is no wonder it has been running rife!
