You're more likely to get a cough with an ACE if you're female, a non-smoker or have a history of respiratory disease such as asthma or COPD.

If it's not tolerable you can talk to your practitioner about switching from an ACE (such as Ramipril) to an ARB.

Not the poster you asked, but as a run down of my side effects... I
am the one with a Ramipril cough... it is a tickly dry cough that won't go away... not much fun during covid times, but the drug suits me in so many ways that I'll put up with a cough. Many people don't get it or only get it for a few weeks.

I take my Ramipril in the evening, always have, as I found taking it with other heart drugs in the morning made me feel a bit zombified. If you drink alcohol when on Ramipril it can also make you dizzy and disoriented. You need to avoid high potassium diet, so no "lo-salt". Also, If you have a severe stomach bug... vomiting and diarrhoea ... you need to speak to a pharmacist about temporarily stopping the tablets.

I was on other meds which did not suit me at all. Ramipril has given me that wonderful balance back between staying alive and feeling alive.

Oh wow… my dh has had this little cough for years and didn’t even think it could be the ramipril.
You learn something new everyday …
DH also takes his in the evening as I read something online about it a couple of years ago.

Thankyou so much for this information very helpful , I read the leaflet inside and it mentioned a lot of what you have mentioned , I've just got off the phone with mil she said she had the same tablet and the same dry cough, I will be taking at night to start with, if it suits me I probably will carry on taking it at night cos I will have got used to it at that time. Glad the medication suite you so well and thankyou once again

It isn’t for everyone but if you look up Dr David Unwin (I see him on Twitter) he recommends a low carb diet to type 2 diabetes patients. He says that 100 of his practice’s type 2s have come off medication as a result of reducing carbs. They have also noticed other positive medical impacts. I have a feeling that Dibber Princess Alison (but I might be wrong about that) had a thread in which she asked about low carb for type 2, to help her husband, I seem to recall that they both found it effective. Best wishes in dealing with your health x

Never forget the motto with a cough during Covid

I used to cough to hide a fart. Now I fart to hide a cough.

I'm heading to London in the morning, I've just taken my first tablet so if the cough starts quick enough I might get a nice socially distanced seat on the train 🤣🤣🤣

I've seen great results with intermittent fasting for Type II diabetes and pre-diabetes. It's a diet I follow myself, although not for any reason other than weight loss.

I love how easy it is to follow compared to pretty much every diet I've ever been on. 25lb off so far over 5 months, it's the only diet I've ever managed to stick to long-term and I suspect I'll follow it for the rest of my life.
