I tipped 39% today
Cause my diet ( stop stuffing your face post cruise ) pre tax bill was $12.81
And the waitress was wonderful and I was in Dennys one hour so she got $5
I felt cheap at that !
Wish tips wasnt on price but purely on service

Agreed! Some of the best service I have had has been in the cheaper chain restaurants where my bill rarely cracks $20.

I've always said this. Why is it moreworkto bring me a glass of wine than a glass of coke. In fact it it's a refillable coke it's more work!

Coke is worse as you need to wait for the bubbles, even tipping a colder glass etc.

The waiters at the signature restaurants at Disney earn a very good wage, much more than their managers, however, a lot are not full time so don't have all the benefits that come with full time working, FT positions are hard to come by and are given out on length of service.

Remember Just because someone earns a lot is not a reason to reduce the tip, if everyone did that then it would be a mess.
I do wish the tipping culture was different in USA, even most Americans think its got out of hand, but it is what it is.

I agree completely with you Gavvy. What they earn is completely irrelevant. We don't know their employment conditions, what they had to go through to get the job, what challenges they have to face.

Tipping is what it is. I went for a lunchtime meal at Ask Italian over the weekend and the bill was £50. So I left £5 because the card machine didn't even ask to enter a tip like other places. Obviously that's 10%. There was nothing wrong with the service - it was just service. I didn't see many tips being left - it's UK culture again.

USA is what it is. Tip what you feel is right. There was a great example on this thread of someone tipping $5 at Denny's for a wonderful service. Didn't matter that the bill was only $13-14. Same should be if it was $100... if you feel $20 is suitable - tip it.

Anyway... still can't wait to go in May!

Interestingly we got talking to a server in a steak house restaurant on our last Florida tip. He said that English have a very good reputation amoung servers for tipping fairly, Scots a bit tight. He also said servers in Disney are paid as if they are not tipped - so much higher than outside Disney, and that a server job in Disney 'was the holy grail of serving jobs - and there was a waiting list to get one'
Excuse me Scots a bit tight aye right ,the thightest person I ever met was from Yorkshire , he insisted his three kids on a day in Blackpool had already cost him almost £5 and it was only 3 O’clock.we Scot’s always tip well !
