Oops! Going back again but with a twist?

So after repeatedly saying that our 2019 trip was going to be our last to WDW here I am again 🙈😂 This time planning a 3 week holiday for winter 2023 to celebrate DS’s 16th bday - though may change to summer 2024 depending on Universal’s Epic Universe opening, as that’s DS’s ‘must do’.

Any way I have a general idea what the family want for Orlando - WDW, Universal & then to try some new things like a sports game, gun range, driving experience, day trip to Miami etc. But me & DD (who’ll be 14/15) are thinking of doing something completely different & adding a twist to the holiday by flying up to California for a 3 night stay to do Disneyland. So my questions are:

1. Is 3 nights/4 days in DisneyLand an ideal time, would more be needed or could we poss get it down to 2 nights/3 days with a early morning flight to LAX & late night flight back to OMC?

2. How easily is it to fly to & also travel down to from LAX now that the DME has stopped running? Delta have return flights at the dates we’d be looking at for £389 ((for both of us) but having never flown state to state I have no clue if that price or the airline itself is good or bad

Thanks in advance for any help! 😃

All I would say is that door to door your travel time is going to be close to the actual time you’re in Disneyland if you only go for two nights? Im guessing there may not be many direct flights, too? Personally I think three nights is really short, too.

Final thought- if you are having to fly indirect definitely consider whether SNA (John Wayne Santa Ana Airport) is a better option. It’s closer to DL and a much much easier / quicker option by transport like taxi. There used to be a Disneyland shuttle running from there but I don’t know if that’s gone with the recent changes. I don’t think it would be more than $25 or so in an Uber though?

Sadly 3 nights is the max we’d be able to do. I wouldn’t be happy leaving the rest of the family in Orlando for longer without me.

We can get direct flights from MCO to LAX easily but to SNA we have to fly direct & based on this year the flight time went from 3/4 hours to 7/8 hours. I figured it’d be quicker to fly to LAX & travel down then fly to SNA even though it’s closer? 🤔

I would say just do California and do it as a road trip, much nicer than Florida. However I don't think that is the answer you really want.

Yes direct to LAX will be much quicker than indirect to SNA.

Because time will be of the essence for you I’d just grab a taxi I think. $80 each way ish?

I’m not up to date with Uber/Lyft at LAX but I thought they’d implanted a process to force pickups offsite (which will add to the travel time). Because your time there is so short I’d want to make the most out of every second. But I’d definitely say a road trip including DL another time is so much more fun than WDW!

Sorry just remembered.
We eventually got an Uber from LAX, so easy. Ordered an uber, got the code and headed to the pick-up point. Took us 10-15 mins transfer from the airport to the taxi pick up (airport was very busy), walked up to the Uber collection point lots waiting, got in taxi at 19:40 and it took us 45 minutes from Airport to Fairfield. Very easy
