Monitors have much better refresh rates than most TV's when you compare them price wise. Having a lower response rate from a cheaper TV can make a real difference when doing first person gaming.

You are going to be looking at £1k+ TV's to keep up with a £200 monitor for gaming.

He can use netflix through the PS4 so no aerial is required. A monitor with speakers (or separate) or a TV will be required. Some info on this at playstation/en-gb/ge...tion-4-system/

Unless he is doing serious gaming rather playing for fun against his friends then a TV with a low latency would be the best compromise if you are thinking about a larger TV, say a 32".

If you are thinking more in the smaller size then a monitor may be better connected to a console to give the smart functions.
