San Diego Chill out hotel with walkable restaurants

Hi guys,

We are thinking of ending our trip in San Diego and like the idea of a nice hotel with a lovely pool, restaurants within walking distance then uber hopping around during the day. (originally was thinking somewhere along trolley stops but with a family of 4 may be cheaper in Ubers?)

I love the idea of shelter island but not sure whether Ubers would soon rack up... and mission bay I'm pretty sure is too far out...

thanks a lot for listening to me ramble

D

Edited at 04:50 PM. Reason: Using Uber rather than Public transport now

We stayed at the BW Yacht Harbour, which isn't far from Shelter Island, and we used Uber to get round to the main town area.

The Best Western Island Palms and Humphrey's Half Moon Inn (they are next to each other) on Shelter Island are lovely, relaxing hotels to stay at. There are only a couple of restaurants within walking distance but both hotels have a very nice restaurant on the grounds, too. Shelter Island is only a quick 5-10 minutes from a large number of restaurants in the Point Loma and Liberty Station communities, so Uber rides would be fairly quick to any of those. Shelter Island is also just five miles from downtown where there are numerous restaurants- a slightly longer drive than going into Point Loma, but it's usually about 15 minutes to get downtown from Shelter Island, so it's not terribly far.

The Marriott Marquis hotel is located downtown near the Gaslamp Quarter district and the baseball stadium and is one of my favorite downtown locations. Their pool area is very lovely and large, and because they are downtown there are a lot of restaurants in walking distance from the hotel.

Yeah it was fine, pretty standard Best Western so nothing fancy. There were a couple of restaurants across the road by the water. Not as fancy as the ones on Shelter Island though, but that's reflected in the price. Only downside would be it's pretty close to the airport so you can hear aircraft noise.

The Marriott Marquis has a gorgeous pool area, really tropical with a lovely bar and a big pool. We found it really relaxing. It's also right next to Seaport Village and only 5 minutes walk from the Gaslamp District with tons of bars and restaurants to choose from.

Edited to add: There is a trolley stop right outside, as well as the tram. We were a family of 4 and used Ubers though as it worked out cheaper. I think the most we paid was about $14 to Seaworld.

I love the look of this hotel! it ticks all the boxes, just wondering whether we can afford it though. We're looking at next August and currently for this August prices are doable but if i dummy book may half term, prices are crazy expensive $450 a night!
