Renting DVC points and travel insurance
Hi
Thinking ahead to 2022 (in need of something to plan and look forward to ) I am hoping to go back to WDW and rent DVC points which is something I've never done before. I am aware that generally once booked there is little to no flexibility in terms of cancellation or moving dates and I think i have read somewhere that standard travel insurance may not cover DVC rental for cancellation. I was therefore wondering if anyone could confirm if this is the case? I know you can buy specific cancellation insurance from some of the rental stores but it seems really expensive. Thank you X Edited at 06:00 PM. |

Hi, I have rented in the past, there is some flexibility depending on what changes you wanted to make, dates, names and accommodation are easily changed so long as they fit in the use year, if you cancelled with more than 30 days notice then they could potentially be sold on and money returned to you, but that can be a huge gamble, especially during this current climate.
Hope this helps a little 👍

Thank you. Like you say it can be a bit of a gamble and whilst I would hope once booked I wouldn't need to make any changes I just need some reassurance I wouldn't be risking losing the full amount paid. If that was the case I will just stick to Pop Century which I love, but fancied trying one of the deluxe hotels next time 😁

I think a lot depends on the owner, their use year and availability.
I had people renting some points this year through David’s. I wanted to know if they wanted to change or cancel but David’s weren’t up for contacting them so I contacted them directly. I explained that if they wanted to cancel or change they needed to do it by end July, as after that I can’t bank my points, and the points could only be used up to Dec. We’ve emailed a few times and again I checked with them last week that things were still ok, they’d got park tickets and park reservations. I didn’t need to do any of that, but I treat people how I’d like to be treated x

I have rented points privately through a Dibber. Sadly it looks like I will have lost all my money unless she succeeds in re renting the points I no longer want to use.
She is currently trying through a consolidated but I am likely to lose a considerable amount of money. Do I blame the seller, the answer is no it's not her fault, but, I will probably never rent points again even though I have successfully rented through Davids in the past. You live and learn! But beware! |

Any flexibility Is purely down to the owner and what their agreement is. So you need to check rang before you decide.

I’m so sorry to read that. She should try FB groups as even if the points are distressed they will go. Have to say I refunded my renter in full as I felt it was the right thing to do, but my points are good for another year and your renter may be in a different situation.

As I say, I do not blame her. She is trying to rerent but I read in a post she posted on here a few days ago that she thinks it is unlikely they will rerent as there is a glut of points in the system at this time.
I do however stand to lose several thousand pounds and my insurance will not cover it. This will be the only thing over several holidays that I have not had refunded and it may be that I get a small amount back in the end but it doesnt look hopeful. Buyer beware would be my moto! |

Why won’t the insurance cover it? I would understand if you were the owner and cancelled as it’s their ‘timeshare’ points but you have rented them so isnt that classed as a hotel cancellation?
