Pre existing conditions - insurance

Our travel insurance with LV is due to renew next month and we got the quote yesterday - they have upped the premium by £30 and said they will no longer cover any of my pre existing medical conditions. So we obviously won’t be renewing.

Any recommendations for insurance companies that are good for pre-existing conditions that are a little non standard? I have an extra lobe on my liver and it’s herniated into my diaphragm. Obviously I’d be looking for covid cover for medical at the very least.

I know it’s not like we can go on holiday just now but we normally have an annual policy in place and if things did improve I’d like to be able to plan and book. Or do I just leave it and hope travel insurance goes a bit more back to normal as well or at least more companies start offering cover.

Thanks for any advice.

We're both post-cancer and have cover with Staysure Comprehensive - but we have had to pay over £800 for the last four annual renewals.

Like most others that I checked a couple of months ago they won't cover cancellation due to Covid but will cover medical costs if you get ill from it over there. Medical cover is unlimited.

You might also try Boots Platinum. Used them a couple of years ago but not this last time.

Money Saving Expert gives all the good ways to find insurance for pre existing conditions. Also don’t rule out an annual policy linked to a package bank account. You can usually do health screening to find out if they will accept the conditions and often they are better value. First time we took him to the states my father-in-law was quoted an additional £600 to take out an extra policy to cover his conditions as they wouldn’t cover it through a standard policy So that was on top of a £100 policy. Lloyd’s covered it all as part of a packaged bank account. Similarly when I get quotes for annual policies they usually come out around £180 due to pre existing conditions which are all included in our bank account insurance for the same price plus we get breakdown and phone insurance thrown in too.

Can’t see any benefit to getting travel insurance now if it’s only the states you are planning on going to.

The rates will come down and you’ll have better options once the FCO and American equivalent are back open so you can travel and it may provide additional cover should the advice change again and your not allowed to go at a later date. A vaccine or medicine at the turn of the year might return premiums to a more normal level too.

Would you get insurance now for a car your not planning to buy for months?

Another vote for Staysure. They seem reasonable for what they're covering.

I have a rare liver condition and the only company that will cover it is InsureWith. Annual worldwide cover was around £400 😭
