Is this car sign a good idea?

I just put this sign on my son's car and would be interested in peoples opinions of whether it's a good idea or not.

My son passed his test 18 months ago and he hasn't driven since, but he soon has to drive 80 miles a day including motorway driving so he's getting lots of practice in.

He isn't a boy racer, but by sticking to the speed limits and not pulling out from junctions super fast some silly drivers are tail gating him.

In fact he doesn't have a black box fitted because there were too many restrictions, but other drivers won't know that.

Anyone else had one of these signs, and did it make any difference to tail gaters (I honestly don't mind negative feedback)?

being honest i dont see the point, why would a black box prevent tailgaters ?

a bit like "baby on board" signs...?

I do take your point, but I guess I was hoping that it might make some drivers think he can't driver like a looney or break the speed limits if he has a black box.

I am honestly in two minds if it's worth having.

Have to agree with PP. Unfortunately far too many drivers are lost in their own little world and pay little attention to, or even disregard, what's in their face. Look how lot's of people treat learner drivers, you'd think they were delivered in a driving seat

Personally I don't think it will make any difference. Some people tailgate just to be aggressive, whatever signs you have showing, but as I said that's just my personal opinion.

all i see there is something blocking a clear view of the back window, so if anything, i would say it's more dangerous for the driver to have it displaying, as it is increasing their blind spot area even further.

for the record, i think all signs like this should be banned. same goes for massive dangling air fresheners or beads/talismans hanging from the rear view mirror...

think about what that sticker says...it says
" I have a black box fitted. I would really like to break the law but I can't until this box is removed"
This one would probably be more effective (especially if it's true)
