We rarely use the train as we have a bus that stops at the end of my street that takes us into Liverpool City Centre. If we do use the train the nearest starting point is just 'the station' and the place we would get off would be the name of the station i.e. James Street or Central.

I'm from Birmingham and it's train station for me but always call it by the name like New Street, Moor Street etc

It a generation thing, I think.

I say train but my elders say railway station.

Incidentally I work for the railway and when I need things sent to me my address is:
<name> Railway Station
Street Name
Town
Postcode

If I catch the train though its from xxx train station.

I have wondered what I say since this thread started. For big stations I just give the name but I’m sure I don’t say train station for the local ones. Diving through a local town today the directional signs definitely say railway station although Merseyrail calls them train stations.
