Train station or railway station ?

On the current ‘ phrases’ thread , someone has said the don’t like ‘ train station’ following up with ‘ what’s wrong with railway station ? ‘

I would never say railway station . And I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say railway station who lives near me ? They all say train station

So it got me wondering if it was a regional or north/south thing ?

Even if I google ‘ Liverpool railway station ‘ it comes up with this

So what do you say and what part of the country / world are you from ?

I was raised on an island - no trains for miles, and miles.

Now live in the West of England - but would just call it "the station"

here, trains go to the station, buses go to "the depot"

I do. It’s either Lime Street or Central as dd catches the train into Central everyday.😂

Train station, never heard anyone call it a railway station here in the East Midlands or even on tv for that matter!

I was surprised at that one too. I tend to just say “station” but if I were to be more descriptive I would say train station. I am from the north west originally but have lived in SE and overseas for the last twenty five years. I don’t think I have heard anyone call it a “railway station”.

North west here and train station. My in-laws work on the trains and all say train station, they are from the wrong side of the penines in that strange place they call Yorkshire 😝
