Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

Just finished reading the said book after my wife had read it saying what a shock at the end. I have to say what a well written book. Very thought provoking.

The movie was a mixture of emotions as well, especially the end

I'm a Holocaust educator and whilst it is a moving piece of fiction, there are so many issues with the book from a historical perspective that cause lots of issues in developing understanding of the Holocaust. I spend a lot of my time as an educator unpicking incorrect assumptions from the book and film especially with children.

Oh what a coincidence I literally watched the film today! I have to say the portrayal of Bruno’s family did bother me as I know the reality of what was happening was very different. I was really torn at the end as felt bad for Bruno and his family and I know this was not where my sympathy should lie.

I thought the book was much better than the movie.

The House of Special Purpose by the same author is also an excellent read.

I have just read the issues in your link and agree with each one. There are better novels to read and films to watch as heartbreaking as the subject is..😢

This book is often discussed in teaching forums I’m in, would you mind if I share this link there?
