Seeing whales and dolphins ...

So I'd absolutely love to see them in the wild but I'm absolutely terrified of boats and get very sick on them

,is there anywhere I can see them from without having to step on a dreaded boat for 3 hours please

Hi if you go to some of the coastal high points with binoculars yo may well be able to spot them. But we would suggest have a look at sanctuary cruises from moss landing . They hire out wrist band for those who think they may suffer from motion sickness. On one of our
Recent trips one person was sick ( an Asian girl who apparently are more likely to be sick), reasonably choppy, no twist band. I would suffer but found the band great.

Oh by the way make sure you stop at elephant seal beach at San Simeon , great sight,and also the beach at Pacific grove .

During winter when the gray whales migrate it's fairly easy to see then from various points along the coast but I'm guessing you're going in Summer, in which case it's not impossible but you'd have to get lucky.

Dolphins are far easier to see and often swim quite close to the shore. We've seen them at pretty much every beach stop we've made up the coast.

I would research Big Sur and likely points to view from the Cliffs. I think, given the countdown on your signature, you will miss those that swim nearest the shore (The Grey's migrating North with their calves).

I would take a look at Monterey Bay Whale watch and not actually book until the day. in that way you can take a look at wind and sea states before making your decision. Their boats are very large and stable.Capacity is large and I dont think that getting on board will present problems. we are there at Easter and the wife will only go if Orcas have been sighted in the previous days.

We saw the following on our trip, 15 Humpbacks, 2 Greys, 500 Risso's, Sea Otters, Sealions, 2 Albatross.

As the skippers all communicate with each other, if there is something out there, you will likely see it regardless of which boat. In your position, I would concentrate on weather state and boat size/stability, rather than reccomends. All the trips seem good!

This is the rather large, stable boat we went on. (Regrettably we did not see an Orca as in the image).
