DAS for epilepsy

Hi there

Few years since we’ve been to Florida but going for 2 weeks in September and just wondering about a DAS card for my 19 year old daughter. We will be a party of 3.

She has epilepsy and I know the tiredness, heat, noise & excitment can have a big impact on her seizure control. Problem is if she has a seizure it then wipes her out for at least a day which is not ideal. She ended up in hospital in the States after a seizure some years ago, so that obviously also plays on everyone’s mind as never want to go through that again.

We will of course take things easy, keep as hydrated and cool as we can, and go back to the villa for a break In the afternoon.

Thankfully she is completely unaffected by lighting.

As I’ve read it’s now been tightening up on getting a DAS I’m wondering if they would just say To avoid getting too tired by using a wheelchair - which she doesn’t need and wouldn’t want to do. This also doesnt help with the heat and noise etc.

Ideally having a DAS would mean we could get a return time then chill in the shade, get a drink etc.

I know because of disability laws they can’t ask for written proof but we would be happy to show PIP paperwork and she carries an epilepsy alert card which has her photo on which we could also show.

What would be our chances? Particularly concerned as I’m expecting parks to be busy due to GE opening and to be honest if we are going to struggle then we might have to plan to do more other things in Florida and less time at the parks.

Thanks for any advice

My understanding was DAS was for hidden disabilities and conditions and epilepsy falls into that category so I think your daughter should qualify... Then again it's down to the CM on the day, but state the case for your daughter or she can herself and say you will be taking things at a slower pace but would benefit from not standing in a queue and getting overheated that could cause a seizure. We use DAS or other parks equivalent for our youngest who has autism and that with fastpass bookings worked brilliantly
