Getting a blue badge permit whilst on holiday

Hi, we are arrived on Wednesday. We have brought my parents for the first time and my Dad have quite severe mobility issues. He struggles to walk more than a few metres without his wheel chair. We brought his blue badge with us. When searching for posts about mobile phones I saw a post about blue badges. We completely overlooked the possible need to get a local blue badge. It just hadn’t occurred to me (for which I’m now feeling incredibly guilty). Has anyone actually got a badge whilst on holiday (rather than doing it in advance)? The Government website says that international blue badges are accepted but I’ve read conflicting info on forums that say if the wheel chair hologram isn’t visible the police may fine you anyway. Does anyone have experience of using just the UK blue badge? I think we’re safe in Disney but now I’m worried about using it elsewhere. Thanks so much.

A trip to the local tax office with the blue badge and your father plus his passport is needed on Monday morning. They should be able to issue a red tag for $14 (I think) which you can use off property as well. Simply hang it from the windscreen mirror when you park in disabled bays. You can do a Google search to find the nearest tax office to your accommodation & also the opening hours.

If you are staying on site and mainly doing parks then the blue badge is fine. Its only in some non-touristy places that you could end up having difficulties as the hologram on the badge may not be visible on the dashboard and therefore they may not see it as an official blue badge. Lots of people have just used the blue badge and been fine and as said in all the parks you wont have any problems. If you are worried then go to the tax office and get one as its the easiest option
