I was once travelling with just a hand luggage size bag but had checked it for health reasons. I had to rip the checked bag tag off before they would let me past with it!

It is really easy to get to the DME as explained in replies, no need to worry and I worry about travelling and finding things!
Work of warning of children on the escalator with cases though. At Easter two children, each with a case, got on ahead of us, one let go of their case and it fell towards the other boy, we were luckily able to grab the case before it took him out. Made my heart go as that would have been a bad start to their holiday!
