Metro was in the news recently, it reported a miscalculation on the amount of capital it had to keep in reserve for regulatory purposes. They had to seek additional investment to make sure they got back on the right side of legislation.
It was an embarrassing fundamental mistake by them and did them reputation damage in the industry. They had to scale back their ambitions of opening new branches (one of the only challengers to have branches) as part of getting back on track. They have been doing well and most predict they will get back on track. They are FSCS backed so low risk for most people. Edited at 05:10 PM. |

Another Monzo user here.
Had it for a year or so now alongside my traditional bank. Majority has been budgeting on spending and transfer fixed sums across weekly Good and stable app - Handy, easy to use and added security layers when you somethings pay for things online (app notifies you instantly and you approve before the transaction is approved). Also set up savings pots and shared/split bills when out socialising with friends So far no faults from me and happy usage

Why should I open a Monzo account if I have FD ?
Tbh FD is so fiddly to log in to now, may be the right time for something new. Reading the posts here I don't see why Monzo though ? |

DD has just used it for 6months travelling throughout Australia and SE Asia with no issues. She has found it really good particularly as mentioned before traveling and splitting bills between friends. She is thinking of using it as her main card now.

I opened one a while back for using overseas and actually use it all the time.
I don’t have my salary paid into it but I use it for my day to day spending as well as paying friends and vice versa for tickets, meals etc. I prefer it to my NatWest account. Everything is instant and I like that I know via my phone each time the card is used.

No.
The FD log in experience is far too complicated for me now. Been with FD since day one, was invited over from Midland because I had a Meridian Account or whatever it was called, with a £250 Cheque Guarantee Card. I can't even remember how many times they changed it, Secure Key, then Digital Secure Key, they wouldn't let you have both. Then change passwords, then add all the favourite numbers, places, then change that to words associated to your favourite numbers or places, then it was enter a PIN on a separate device, while being logged in on a different device, or not logged in, whichever it was. Blah, blah, blah, all I use FD for currently is sending cheques to pay bills. If you like it that's fine. I'm not alone in finding it too fiddly. uk.trustpilot/review/firstdirect |
