Are room numbers given when checking in online at AKL?

Hi there,

We are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge in October/November.

Can anyone tell me if we will be given room numbers when doing online check-in?

We would like to stay in one of the Savannah view rooms, but not sure if it is possible to request this?

Thanks!

We checked in at the desk last time and the room number appeared on MDE only when the room was ready for us, I expect it would be the same.

You need to book a savannah view room as they are a different category. With online check in you can request things like location or floor, but you can't request an upgraded room.

You don't get your room number until its ready so even if you do online check in or check in at the resort early you won't be told which room you are going to be in.

Online check in basically just confirms you intend to arrive and gives you a chance to select any preferred options off the list they give it doesn't actually allocate you a set room

If you do online check in you’ll get a message when your room is ready telling you the room number and block. Then you can bypass the front desk and go straight to your room. It’s an on the day thing though. I’ve done it many times as my son finds the lobby tricky. When you initially do the online check in you can select things like high floor, near elevator etc. But you don’t get your room number on MDE until the day. If you check in on line you don’t need to go to the lobby at all.

Just to note. Unless you already have active magic bands then you’ll need to go to the desk as check in to pick them up even if you have done online check in. If you want a savannah room it’s a separate booking category to either standard or pool view rooms. There are some standard rooms that have partial savannah views or feeding pen views which can be a good bonus. For a two week stay though a savannah room category would be about 1k more. People get lucky and get them but it’s not at all guaranteed. If you’ve paid for a standard room and are hoping for a free upgrade don’t choose the category close to the lobby at online check in as this will likely give you a room overlooking the car park. Excellent location I love these rooms but definitely not a savannah view!

You can unlock your door with your phone now! It’s pretty neat and no need for magic bands to get in.

We saw this but didn’t understand what it meant? DH thought it sounded unsafe.

Hi. Yes I know. But if OP has magic bands waiting for them with their tickets on them they will need to get them from the front desk. That’s also where they will get a map of the hotel and as it sounds like their first visit there they will be wanting that too.

I've been to a few Hilton hotels where you can do this. It's a bit like when you use contactless payment on your phone - you need to use the specific app, log into your phone, activate the app when you're close to the room and then hold the phone by the handle. It's really easy.

So you could just go to your room, drop all your stuff, relax a little bit and pick up your magicbands later ?
