East meets West - New York to LA 2016
Hello and thank you for taking the time to check out our trip report . We are a family of four from the South Wales Valleys and love our holidays in the Good ‘Ole U S of A. My Name is Mark, my wife is called Sarah and we have 2 beautiful daughters, Samara who is 15 and Anya who is 6.
This will be our 4th trip to America and first to the West Coast, all other times has been the east coast and Orlando. For our previous trip reports see here http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/repo...p?userid=55031 It’s our last 2 trip and includes last year’s 5 week holiday which covered New York, Washington DC, Niagara Falls Canada and Orlando. Still with me ? Right onto this years trip, after feeling we have exhausted Orlando for the time being and with no major expansions due for the next couple of years we thought we would hit the West Coast to see what all the fuss is about. We plan on visiting Las Vegas, San Fransisco, California & finish up back in New York after we loved it so much last year. So onto the plans we leave of the 3rd of August where we will spend the night in Holiday Inn Express near Manchester airport, we liked it last year and managed to get it free this time with the “free if you find it cheaper” deal at Holiday Extras, we have Jet parks parking too. Once in the airport we fly with Thomas Cook airlines by far the cheapest flights we found and after last years trip one of the best carriers we have used and that includes B.A. We land in JFK just after lunch and plan on staying the night in Days Inn near the airport. Why you may ask, well if was cheaper to do it this way than fly direct to the west coast. In the morning we head back to JFK where we will take a JetBlue flight to Las Vegas, we used JetBlue last year and cannot fault them, cheap and the most legroom on a flight by far and being over 6 foot you NEED legroom. Las Vegas We are staying in the Best Western Plus Casino Royale on the strip (right in front of the Venetian and across the road from the Mirage) so an ideal location we stay there five nights. A summary of things we are planning on doing when in Vegas - The biggie is the Grand Canyon we have gone all out and went for the Helicopter ride, floor landing, Pontoon boat ride and Skywalk, so excited for this Another thing we are doing is renewing our vows, can’t go to Vegas and not get married again can you, this will be our five year wedding anniversary this year and wanted to have some fun, we are renewing our vows with Elvis (who else lol) and then in the evening we have booked a photo tour with a local photographer to capture some of our memories in Vegas to look back on. After this we have a couple of days to explore the strip where we will spend one day going up the strip and the next going down, we have bought the GO Las Vegas card which will allow us to do some of the things we wanted to do Stratosphere Tower, High Roller Paris etc, we are also hoping to catch some of the free entertainment on offer in or around the Hotels and Casinos. The final things we are hoping to do is spend a good few hours in the Adventuredome in Circus Circus to have some fun with the kids and hit Fremont street to go on the Zip line. After Las Vegas we head to San Fransisco for a couple of days We’re only in San Fransisco for 1 full day and 2 half days so need to make the most of our time, we found out about Dylan’s tours on thedibb so went ahead and booked “a day in the bay” tour which ticks all the boxes for us, we are only intrestered in seeing the golden gate bridge and Alcatraz so this is tour which covers a load of other things is perfect for us. We are staying in Nob hill at the Nob Hill Hotel. After San Fransisco we head to Hollywood, We have 3 days here where we have a Starline tour booked of all the sights and movie star homes and we have a day ticket for Universal Studios, for our last full day we have talked about doing Venice Beach but that hasn't been locked in yet so who knows. Also we defiantly need to do this if the hubbys not to scared For our stay in Hollywood we have booked the Dixie Hotel which is near some of the sights. This is the only part of the holiday where we will have a car. For our car we chose a SUV through virgin with Alamo Final part of our West Coast getaway is Disneyland where we have 4 day tickets and plan on making the most of our days here. Cant wait to see the differences between the parks here and in Orlando, knowing that Walt was alive and well when this was opened will be special to me. We also have a little surprise waiting for Anya , a breakfast with Minnie and friends in the Plaza Inn which was one of Walts favourite places 😉 For are stay in Anaheim we are staying in the Castle Inn and suites which is just across the road from Disneyland and is around a 5 to 10 minute walk away. Ideal. To finish our holiday off we head back East and to the city that never sleeps.≈≈ After such an awesome time the last time we went we decided to give it another bash. This time we are spending 6 days here and are staying in Quality Inn convention center, not our first choice but good reviews and bang for your buck with free breakfast thrown in it’s perfect for us. While in the big apple we have New York Pass 5 day tickets, these were excellent last time so there was no hesitation in getting them again, it covers pretty much everything we want to do and will save us a fortune. Still to do Transfers for Las Vegas, San Fransisco & New York. Adventuredome tickets for Las Vegas. Tickets for One World Observatory. Lock in plans for our spare day in Hollywood.
