It's A Long Way To Itinerary Day 13 Hoover Dam

Day 13

This morning we are going to the Hoover Dam.

Breakfast was taken at the South Point which is always good and well worth the money.

The parking garage is a tad too far from the visitors centre for my liking.

Moan Over.

Because to think this dam was built in the 1930's is just amazing.

It's a wonderful piece of engineering, particularly the bridge and spillways.

Larry and Al walked up the hill to take photos from the new bridge

Lily and I stayed behind because that’s waay too much exercise.

It was decided that we would do just the museum and not the in-depth bit where you must stare at pipes and man stuff.

I have done the museum before and it has been totally re vamped I preferred the old museum as they had hundreds of original photos.

They have all gone a lot of it has been replaced by videos.

Included in the tour was a film in the auditorium across the road

The film was a glass frontage and then a 3d map of north America with all the dams marked on it.

Now I don’t know why the Americans have the eagle as their emblem it should be a beaver because they have built hundreds of dams.

Back at the apartment we had a sandwich and a rest I think the heat had taken its toll.

In the evening we took a taxi to the South Point.

Now I don’t know if the catalytic convertor was playing up or if that taxi driver had just “dropped one”.

It was horrible all squashed up in that little car with a flatulent baboon at the wheel.

I can’t remember how much it cost but we paid him, scrambled out gasping for breath, he thanked us. I couldn’t resist it.

“You’re very welcome Mr Methane”.

We were going to have a buffet dinner but unsurprisingly we had lost our appetite.

Lily and I departed for the bingo Al and Larry decided to play a few slots.
Bingo over we re-joined the chaps.

I had a try on the slots but don’t know what I am doing.

A waitress asked me if I would like a drink I tried out my line Gimme a whisky ginger ale on the side and don’t be stingy baby she didn’t bring it but did bring me a bottle of Korona.

As the garden buffet had closed we had dinner in the Coronado Café.

It had a very extensive menu.

Well it would have wouldn’t it?

All those left overs on the buffet.

Lily and I ordered a lo Mein thing and Harry and Al ordered steaks.

Before the food came, they brought an appetizer affair it looked a bit like a bird’s nest.

I sampled a twig of it, and it must have come from the en-suite in the nest because it tasted like guano.

Guano?
That’s the Mexican term for it (I learnt that when a Microcraptor deposited a load on me and my breakfast in Cancun).

The bird’s nest was accompanied by four dips three were ok and one of them tasted as though it had been passed through the digestive tract of a pigeon.

The entrees were very good but there again our taste buds had been rendered useless by the pigeon acid.

We decided to make our way back to the Tahiti because our Lily had at least a half dozen bottles of bare foot to get through.

We waited at the taxi point we could see the taxis lined up about 50 yards further up.

The drivers were all out of their cars having a natter and a smoke.

They had seen us but made no effort to pick us up.

Another taxi turned up to drop someone off.

We jumped in that.

The drivers from the line of taxis came running down trying to stop our driver from moving off.

They had a right slanging match with our driver.

Then security turned up.

I was hemmed in the car between Al and our Lily I was dying to get out and put my two-penny worth in, but they wouldn’t let me out.

Then the security guy told our driver he was banned from ever coming to the South Point.

Well I wasn’t having that.

I gave Al an almighty shove he nearly fell out of the taxi and then I was out.
I told the security guy.

What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate.

I then explained what had happened and that the woman who was due to pick us up was finishing her cigarette and conversation first.

Only trouble was I didn’t say cigarette I said fag and apparently that’s a slang term in the U.S. for homosexual.

Rather than banning our driver he should be thanking him and banning Mrs Fag Face.

I told him I would be emailing the South Point Management regarding the whole sorry matter.

Mrs Fag Face skulked back to her car and didn’t say another word.

The security driver nodded at our man and told him to be on his way.

We laughed about it all the way back.

The taxi driver was bemused because he didn’t have a great grasp of English.

Our Lily even gave me a small glass of her Barefoot Pinot. A very small glass I might add.

Just reading these out loud as I usually do, and Peter reckons I should be hired to do your audiobook.
