But that gets a bit complicated because the US gallon is only around 80% of an Imperial one.
Imperial 4.546 litres US 3.785 litres Mick

100% correct. The price is openly posted, they aren't actually trying to RIP anyone off. I have recently learned that the owner wanted a convenience store there as it is right next to the Disney College Program housing. He is actually providing a good service to the students who live there at reasonable prices.
Avoiding Shell garages because of it makes no sense as it is just a franchise. The lesson is to always look at the price as there are a few other high ones around too and I don't think they happen to be Shell.

Mick and I remember it at 5/11d a gallon in the Jet garages. Made you car run rough but hey it was cheap!
As a treat I used to sometimes use Esso but that was 6/2d a gallon. What a con.

Did you have one of those tiger tails that Esso gave out (sold more likely) that you fixed near the petrol cap. A tiger in your tank. Passed my test in 1969 and was able through my employer's car purchase scheme to buy a new Hillman Minx deluxe - it had a Motorola push button radio with 6 pre-selected stations. In those days Dab was a flat fish. Used to give it a squirt of Redex when I filled up. No idea why but it said it was good for the engine. Mick

Just been from Leeds to central London overnight. Total cost including overnight parking, £15 for 400 miles. Sooner we switch to electric the better.

Mick. I used to put in 2 or 3 shots of Redex every Friday. Why I have no idea but my Dad said it was good as it was an upper cylinder lubricant evidently.
Sadly I never had the tiger tail. I do however still have all the 'coins' ref flight and space that either Shell or Esso gave out. My first car was a 1962 P4 Rover 100. Awesome beast - 7mpg to the gallon, 8 mpg if you were careful! I used to deliberately run out of petrol then flick on the reserve petrol tank switch that had another gallon left!
