The $170 ticket from the Universal site is the value ticket, with tax it comes to $181.05. The same ticket from undercovertourist is $178.06, so about $3 cheaper [not a lot but every little helps], and as I said you can have the ticket mailed or sent as an E-ticket so he can buy it in advance.

What does 'value ticket' mean? We just want a ticket that will have admittance to both parks?

You have 3 different tickets on the Universal site and the undercovertourist site [also other sites] for the 1 Day Park to Park tickets.
There's the value ticket, the regular ticket, and the anytime ticket. It will depend on what date you are going as to whether you buy the value ticket or regular ticket, obviously the anytime ticket can be used whenever in a 12 month period from the date of purchase, whereas the other tickets are only valid for certain times in the 12 month period. Hope this makes sense but have a quick look on undercovertourist for the dates of the value and regular tickets.

Park To Park is the option allowing you to visit both parks in a day (it's called hopper at disney's) the "value" means "low season" and can only be used on days classed as "value" when you make a simulation on the universal website, it will ask you for the date of your visit and will tell you if it's value or regular. Actually it will change the price for you if you don't know when you're going, you'll need to buy a regular or anytime ticket, to make sure you can enter the parks on the day you wish. If you purchase a value ticket, and the day you plan to go is "regular", you won't be able to enter (although I think you might be able to upgrade for a fee, but don't quote me on that) |
