I think if you get a GT model or a Crossroad with the 3.6-Liter V6 24-Valve VVT Engine, they are not that bad, though a rental poverty spec SE Value or SE's with the 2.4-Liter I4 DOHC 16-Valve Dual VVT Engine are a bit basic.

Though.. its all about opinion...

I have only used Alamo before where you get to choose. If I am allocated a car that I don't like is it worth complaining? What are peoples experiences like of Avis changing the car?

Over the last few years we have had a Dodge Journey Crossroad, and a couple of Ford Edge, and also a Santa Fe. All group W with Avis.

Which did you prefer? I'm hoping for a Ford Edge I think.

If we do go for a std SUV next year, I would be wanting either a Ford Edge or an Explorer. We had the Edge in 2016 and was very impressed with it

The edge was best of those for me. The worse was the Santa Fe. It just didn’t seem like it had enough room and was always looking for the right gear.

We are flying out Sunday and have a Ford Escape booked as part of our BA deal and pickup is with Avis. Had a Ford Edge in 2016 and loved it so best to try and phone BA tomorrow to see if can change. Looking at prices online now only a few quid difference. Think it was a £70 difference when I booked which is why I went with the Escape to save a few quid.

We flew into SFO on Wednesday and picked up a very nice 7 seater V6 VW Atlas (same as a Touareg). This was from a Group S booking
