It removes the huge overheads of purchasing and maintaining the 3D glasses. Also, people who wear glasses dislike wearing the 3D glasses.
Forbidden Journey was originally 3D ?

Sorry, wasn't specific. In Japan and Hollywood. It was removed in 2016 from both I think.

I guess there pushback on the 3D and screen use. Plus the overall cost savings.

Well, my daughter will be pleased. She doesn't like 3D screens - she either covers one eye or just puts up with a blurry screen - but she is a Minions fan. For her, this will make the ride better.

I realise that it does take effort and money to maintain the 3D glasses but surely not that much? Does this mean 3D cinema has finally had it's day (again)?

We were on it on Tuesday and no change as yet. Still 3D glasses required.

I loved Minions, what are they thinking of taking it from 3D to 2D? I can't see the sense of it.

From what I have read it literally changed overnight on Thursday.

They spoke about it a while back on a Jim Hill podcast.

The initial outlay for the glasses can be in order of $10+ per pair and they buy 100,000's as they always have enough for one or two days operation AFAIK.

Ongoing costs would be replacement glasses, daily cleaning and packing. I think the projector costs factor in as well.

If it doesn't negatively effect guest satisfaction why wouldn't you save the money?

How will the pre-show work, it was all about how not to put on the glasses with the minions acting up etc, was very funny.
