It was actually dreaming last night that I needed them for an emergency hospital visit that made my mind up for me. That and one we saw a whale eat a dinosaur in front of us today 😆

Technically the hotel shouldn't have allowed you to check in without a passport as you aren't a US citizen.

The next hotel may not be so accommodating so I'd be going back to get the passports.

You could go tonight without even telling the others if it's an hour away it will take you 2.5 hours max to sort it all (oh and a decent cash reward for the finder)

Enjoy the whale watching and try and enjoy the rest of the day. I'm glad you decided to go back, it will help you relax for the rest of the trip.

Technically that's incorrect, all the hotel needs is ID from one person so driving licence is more than adequate (many Americans don't even own passports)

I love the fact that dibbers are on first name terms with each other.

I've been a dibber since 2012 but never got that close to any other dibbers... fair play to you all.

I hope the passports arrive without a hitch.

That’s true, I get asked for ID but not passport and my driving licence is fine.

Hope you have a quick enough journey to retrieve them and then have some piece of mind.

I’ve got them! 5 and a half hour round trip this morning, but was back in Monterey by 11.30 so didn’t impact on our plans for the day. I’m so pleased they are in my possession now.
Thank you everyone for your advice x

I love it too. I think it helps that a few of us do trip reports so I feel like I know some Dibbers personally even though I’ve not met them. Well apart from Abby that is!
