Key West for the family
Hi
I have not had a trip to the Key West for about 20 years but we do have 3 days this August in which we could do this. Things will be different now as I now have a family with children 15 and 10. I know it is a long drive are there any other considerations I should have now. 1) Is Key West ok for children 2) Is there a particular are to stay that is good. Previously I stayed on Southwest side a couple of blocks from Duval Street 3) I would like to spend an hour or so visiting Everglade national park are there any hotels en route to Orlando that would allow this stop ? Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Key West is great for children in the daytime, it can get a bit "lively" in the evening. Depends how open minded you are.

We have been to key west twice, I personally think there is lots for children to see and do, train, hop on hop off bus, snorkeling boat trip, aquarium, ship wreck museum, ship museum, sunset at Mallory square, light house, butterfly's lots more.. Key west gets its bad reputation for the bars along duval street, but when we have gone we were back st our Accommodation by 11pm so never saw anything bad.

We're going for the 6th time in September! DS came on the first 4 visits, aged 11 -18. We're usually back at the hotel by 9pm so have not seen the "lively" nightlife. Stayed at southernmost on the beach, banyan resort and curry mansion, would happily stay at any of them again. This year we're staying at the marker hotel, part of the southernmost group but at our preferred end of the island.
Sunset celebrations at Mallory square are a must!

We went when the kids were 8 and 5. Duvall St was definitely "lively" in the evening, and after we watched the sunset at Mallory Sq we headed back to the hotel via one of the streets which ran parallel to Duval St, keeping away from all the action so the kids were none the wiser.
The house with the cash machine on the veranda took some explaining though ! |
